A NICU STORY | THOUGHTS FROM MOM & DAD
“Baby Austin just couldn’t wait to see the world, so he made his grand entrance at 27 weeks on July 10th weighing 2 pounds 11 ounces. Now he’s just eating and growing as much as he can so that big brother, Preston, will be able to recruit him as his next superhero sidekick!

This will be our second time that we’ll be NICU parents. Our firstborn, Preston, also arrived early and stayed in the NICU for a week. It was particularly rough that time sine nothing had gone according to plan and I felt particularly guilty I wasn’t able to keep him to term. However, as wee look back on that experience, we realized that kiddos tend to make plans for themselves and they’re tougher than we think they are.

Now that Austin will be staying in the NICU (this time for 8 weeks), we know that he’ll be receiving the vest care around the clock. It doesn’t seem as scary this time around as we know this will only make him stronger. I look at our firstborn son (who is now 4.5 years old) and can’t even tell he was a preemie. We just feel that Austin wanted to tackle life head-on and he’ll be all the more prepared for all future challenges.”

A Note From Minvi:

"So glad to meet the Chen family and their second son, Austin. Michael and Jessica were very excited to finally have this shoot for their preemie baby. Sweet Austin was so gentle and quiet all throughout the session. His parents, both back to work now, are anxious to have him home with his older brother. Wishing this wonderful family all the best and thank you for having me capture these moments for you!"

2016 Preemie, NICU, & Angel Baby Calendar

2016 Preemie Prints Calendar
is available!!

Order below until November 30th!

Our calendars make beautiful gifts for the holidays & Christmas!!

The Preemie Prints Calendar features 10 NICU/NICU graduate Preemie Prints photo shoots from throughout the year with a very special October month honoring a tiny angel and another month dedicated to Preemie Prints Sew & Craft and other NICU friends! The calendar is a way for everyone to enjoy the beautiful pictures taken by our volunteers and raise money for our nonprofit organization, so that we can continue our work raising awareness, continuing our current programs, and developing more outreach programs for NICU, preemie, and angel families.

In addition to supporting our mission, you also get to enjoy amazing photography of some precious preemies and NICU babies all year long, who had a very rough start to life! Preemie Prints, and our wonderful network of volunteers, gives this gift of photography to current and graduate NICU families because we want to share hope and inspire them to keep on going. We want to bring a smile to their face when they reflect on their time in the NICU through our pictures. We want them to know how strong they are, even when they feel defeated. Each day they wake up, return to the NICU, and sit by the side of their little fighter whispering loving words, cuddling, and taking care of them. Those difficult days in the hospital and early days at home are filled with a beauty and grace that is unexplainable, but pictures do a great job of trying.

As you look into the eyes of these miracles, you are staring at some of the strongest little fighters on earth! They are amazing miracles, and when we look at them they are humbling and bring tears to our eyes. Some beat incredible odds and dismal diagnoses, but through the grace of God overcame and triumphed. Others spent a very short time on this earth, but we have already been witness to the many lives they have touched, and through their spirit continue to touch daily. Their parents spent days by their side rallying and cheering them on. Even when fatigue, emotion, shock, and fear were overtaking them, they still sat by their side with an intense and pure love for their child. We are here supporting those families...past or present, no matter the circumstance or the outcome, we are here, so we ask that you please support what we are doing by ordering a calendar.

Calendars are shipping out tomorrow November 6th!! They are still available to order until the end of the year. We will ship them out as the orders come in.

A NICU STORY | THOUGHTS FROM MOM

“Carter was born at 25 weeks after my water breaking at 20 weeks. He weighed 1lb 11oz and 11 3/4 inches. His lungs were severely immature because he did not have any measurable fluid for 5 weeks. He was 1lb 11oz and 11 3/4 inches long. He was at his first hospital for 3 weeks and was transferred to another because he developed an inguinal hernia. As soon as we got there, emergency surgery was performed right in the NICU at the bedside because he was too unstable to be moved to the OR. He lost 10cm of bowel and had an ileostomy and was not expected to make it through the night. He was extremely sick for a very long time, on high frequency ventilators for the first 3 months of his life. I didn't get to hold him until he was 3 months old. He is now 11 months old and we are at our 3rd hospital. He's had 5 surgeries, 25+ blood transfusions, numerous bouts of pneumonia, bone infection, and numerous health problems including pulmonary hypoplasia, chronic lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, tracheomalacia, and bronchomalacia. He now has a tracheostomy and g-tube. He is ventilator dependent and is currently struggling to transition to the home vent. He cannot go home until he is stable on the home vent 24/7. He is 11 months old and has spent his entire life in the hospital.”

A Note From Andrea:
“When I first arrived for this little man’s session, he was still napping, so I took the opportunity to get some sweet, sleepy pictures. After he woke up, his loving big sister (who posed for the loveliest picture for me) and parents and I had a blast trying to get lots of smiles and giggles from him. Thank you, family, for letting me share these precious moments with you. I hope you love these.

Love, Andrea”
