July Sew & Craft Meeting

Preemie Prints had another successful sewing meeting. We worked on cuddlers & giraffes! Thank you for coming out to help we sincerely appreciate each and every person in Bryan College Station (and beyond) who gives their time and helping hands to NICU babies. If you're interested in getting involved, please let us know because we need you. If you have fabric to donate we will graciously accept.

We pray these special memories will help the parents to remember how strong they were in overcoming a crisis situation.

A note from Mom:

"Renton was born at 34 weeks. When I went into the hospital, I was in denial that my water had been broken for about 18 hours. I went to my local small hospital and my doctor said we are calling an ambulance to transfer you to a better place equipped for preemies. And that's when it hit me that my pregnancy was over. I was not going to get a full term baby, I was going to be a mom of a little miracle. I was scared to death that everything would go wrong from there, but also excited to meet my baby. I was in the hospital for 5 days before I was induced. I got 2 rounds of steroids for his lungs and guest what...they worded, because he was born screaming. He was born and went right to the NICU and I went right to recovery. He was able to eat and breath on his own. He had a slight difficulty maintaining his body temperature. He spent 2 days in the NICU and 3 more days as a "boarder" in a regular nursery under heat lamps and then the ultraviolet lights for jaundice."

A note from Mom:

"Piper Makenzie was a fighter from the start. We were admitted at 23 weeks for hospital bed rest due to perterm labor and an incompetent cervix. The neonatologist came down and spoke with us that day on whether we were prepared to take every measure to save her life if she was born at 23 weeks. Piper hung on, thankfully, for 7 1/2 more weeks and came into the world at 30 weeks on May 21st. She stayed in the NICU at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital for 42 days. She breezed thru most of her time in the NICU until right before we went home. Her nurses always referred to her as the rockstar! Before being sent home it was discovered that Piper had a small brain bleed. Also during bottle feeds, Piper would experience apnea and bradycardia. This scared us so much and we are so thankful she isn't experiencing the A's & B's anymore while feeding. As for the brain bleed, it is not active and the doctors expect it to resolve. After 52 days on hospitalized bed rest, 42 days in the NICU, we are thrilled to be home! It's been a long hospital journey and we are so ready for the next of enjoying life with Piper. She is such a sweet angel and our family is finally complete! "

The Preemie Store tries to reduce the cost of preemie clothes were they can. The owner Pat understands and has walked in our shows. She had a Preemie in 1983. She also offers a prayer page. Please take a look at her store and help support The Preemie Store!

We were able to stop by one of the local hospitals and provide one of the families with a tinny sleeper in which they used for their Rooming-In Night. Can't wait till our next meeting. I hope everyone will be able to make it out.

Angel Baby Butterfly Release In College Station, Tx - In Honor Of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month

October is Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month and Together We Honor Our Angels.

You are invited to honor your baby with us at this very special event

This is a very special ceremony honoring our tiny angels. October is Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month. In Bryan College Station we celebrate the lives of babies who were only with us here for a short time, by releasing a butterfly. You and your family are invited if you have experienced a pregnancy or infant loss in your life.

Prior to the butterfly release a community hospital chaplain will speak and lead us in a prayer.

The release of the butterflies will commence our event.

If you plan to attend this event in honor of your angel please RSVP by calling/texing (979)635-0825. Include your baby's name and number of people who will be attending in support with you. You are also encouraged to bring handmade candles, create special t-shirts, and invite your friends and family to attend with you. 

In the folklore of some Native American tribes, the butterfly means change or balance and many believe they bring good luck. The Papago tribe believed that if you catch a butterfly and whisper your secrets to them; the butterfly unable to make a sound, would carry the secret to the great spirits. The spirits greatful that the butterfly was set free would bestow the wish upon the person who made it. This is one reason butterfly releases are so popular today.

In Japan, a butterfly is said to be the personification of a person's soul; whether they be living, dying, or dead. Many cultures view the butterfly as rebirth or renewal.

These representations can be important concepts for an angel family after experiencing the loss of a child. The butterfly to one family may mean a child's soul coming back to visit them while another may view the butterfly as a path for moving on within their "new life" or as a welcoming sign of the birth of another child. With each butterfly released, the individual places their hopes and dreams and deepest desires with the butterfly as they let it go hoping the butterfly carries them to our own personal "Great Spirit".
