A NICU STORY | THOUGHTS FROM MOM

"Joshua Ryan was born November 8 at 28 weeks of my pregnancy. He was 2 lbs 1 oz at birth. Our NICU journey was 68 days long and full of both good and bad experiences and emotions. Joshua could not eat on his own at first. He had to have an NG tube to eat. When he was about 6 weeks old. I was able to start breastfeeding. He also had to have a blood transfusion due to his anemia. Joshua was on oxygen from birth until he was 3 1/2 months old. He came home on oxygen and a brady/apnea monitor."

A NICU STORY | THOUGHTS FROM MOM

"We had Twin Boys! Asher was born first at 1lb 14oz and Aiden was born next weighing in at 2 lbs 6 oz.. They were born August 22 at 26 weeks and 1 day. As of September 26th, my babies were in the NICU for a little over a month I have had some ups and downs as any parent with a baby in the NICU will tell you to expect, but nothing really prepares you for the bad days. I was told to expect them to be in there until their original due date of November 27th or possibly longer depending on how things go. A lot of prayer, hope and family gets me through this tough time. I am extrememly thankful to Cooks Children and all their FANTASTIC nurses for all they do to try and make this rough time as comfortable as possible. So on our journey we will continue. "

Preemie Prints is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization sharing hope with NICU families through a variety of support programs. One of those programs is the gift of NICU photography and preemie photography. NICU families from across the US can request a no-charge photography session by a Preemie Prints volunteer. The family request from can be found on the right side of our website. These sessions are free of charge and for any NICU family, regardless of time spent in the NICU. The NICU photo shoot can take place inside the NICU or after baby is discharged and at home until their 1st birthday. Facing time in a NICU with a premature or critically ill baby is an extremely difficult time for families. Preemie Prints has a mission to share hope by letting families know they are not alone. Preemie Prints currently has over 100 volunteers nationwide. We are always looking for more volunteers to share in our mission! Lots Of Prayer Requests From The NICU Tonight

Our organization serves a BIG GOD and we know when we petition with prayers for preemies and babies in the NICU He hears us in a BIG way. Our small Preemie Prints community coming together to so often to pray for babies is making a difference. Tonight we had three requests come in at the same time, so instead of posting each on facebook we are putting them all in a blog post to share with you. Please keep all of these precious miracles and their families in your prayers tonight. #prayers #NICU

NICU Prayer Request #1

"My daughter is a one pound miracle. She went into surgery today for inertia hernia and a repair to her stomach (plyoric stenosis). She was one the cpap when going into surgery... now she will be intubated. Can you please pray for Karyssa?"

NICU Prayer Request #2

This one if for one of very own Preemie Prints volunteer photographers, Karina Johnson. She is so special to us and now she's a part of our community. Her son was born full term today with fluid on his lungs. She has not been able to hold him and is hurting. 

"Our baby boy was born at 1:41pm weighing 8Ib 14oz. Pls keep baby Vincent in your prayers he is in the NICU due to fluid in his lungs. It breaks my heart that I wasn't able to hold him and can't see him until later on tonight BUT I know God is in control!"

NICU Prayer Request #3

"I would like to send a prayer request out for my son Kelson. He turned a month old today in the NICU of Children's Hospital of Pittsburg. He has been here since his birth. I had Kelson at 31 weeks and besides him being preemie he was born with a heart condition called TGA known as Tranposition of the Great Arteries. He will be having heart surgery when he is around 38-42 weeks old.With prayers so far Kelson has began full feeds as well as put weight on. At birth he weighed 3 pounds 9 ounces. As of now he weighs 4 pound3ounces. He continues to make progress each day and hopefully within the next two the doctors will be removing his ventilator. I just pray that this does happen on schedule and there is no set backs for Kelson. He is a very strong baby with a very powerfull will to live. I know God has a plan for my Son there is no doubt in my mind. So please pray that Kelsons road to recovery and becoming better is a smooth one with no set backs and he continues his great work of doing what his doctors are wanting him to do.Mommy loves you baby boy and God is on our side 100%."

A NICU STORY | THOUGHTS FROM MOM

"Our sweet Anna Joy's remarkable story began at our 20 week ultrasound where she was diagnosed with spina bifida.  Spina Bifida is when the spine of the baby has an opening and the spinal cord and nerves are not protected.  Anna and I (her mommy) underwent surgery together when Anna was just 24 weeks gestation called open fetal surgery.  During the surgery they placed her spinal cord back inside of her and closed the opening on her back.  She was just 1 1/2 pounds for her surgery.  After her part of the surgery was complete they then closed my uterus and I was on strict bedrest with the hopes that Anna would arrive at 37 weeks.  Bedrest was going very well and Anna was doing great until we reached 29 weeks.  At 29 weeks, 5 days I went into intense labor, my water broke at home and Anna was born 3 hours later in a hospital room with no one there to help us.  I truly believe God was with us the entire time.  I never felt frightened and I am unbelievably grateful for His protection.  :)  After Anna was born everyone rushed into action and she was taken to the NICU.  After a few wonderful hours of bonding with her through the windows of the incubator she was transported to our Children's Hospital.  I was discharged the next morning to be with her.  She had many ups and downs, steps forward, steps back in the NICU but after 72 days she came home!  On her due date!  :)   It was a wonderful day and such an amazing feeling to have our family of 6 finally together at home!  Anna is such a blessing, she fills our hearts with joy every single day.  She has been through so much already- even before she was born and she is thriving!  She is our little miracle!!"

"I had a great time photographing Anna Joy. Anna’s mom had some great picture ideas!  I always love when clients have meaningful props or special ideas they want to capture. One idea she had was to capture the beauty of Anna’s scar.  Anna was big and strong-kicking her feet, sitting up, grabbing her toes…you would never know that she started out so small and was at risk for not being able to move her legs.  That beautiful scar on her back is a reminder of the obstacles she has overcome and what a miracle she is!"
