A NICU STORY | THOUGHTS FROM MOM
“He (Cooper) was born by emergency C-section 10 weeks early due to me having preeclampsia and my placenta abruption. When they took him he wasn't breathing, he was blue and his heart rate was only 10bpm. They brought him back to life and is now my happy little miracle baby. He had a grade 3 brain bleed, developed hydrocephalus and required brain surgery to have a shunt placed. It's been a long road and still a long road ahead, but he is a strong little fighter!”

Cooper's photo session was taken and donated by Preemie Prints volunteer photographer, Brian C. Parks.

A Note From Brian:
"Cooper did great at his shoot! I don’t think I ever quite won him over, so he was a little frowny with me the whole time! He had a great time rocking in the little chair I brought, but promptly took a nose-dive after building up a bit too much momentum! Aside from that minor scare, he was a trooper throughout the rest of the shoot! : )"

A NICU STORY | THOUGHTS FROM TAYLOR'S FAMILY
"Taylor was admitted to the NICU at birth due to being premature. My body developed preeclampsia and caused me to go into pre-term labor. Taylor was born at 3lbs 11oz. She had to be fed by NG tube and also had apnea episodes. After a (long to me, short to some) 18 day stay we were finally sent home.No matter how short or long the stay is in the NICU, it's a trying time on any parent. Leaving the hospital without your baby is a feeling no one can describe. You feel lost, helpless and alone. Lean on other people to help you get through it. We were in the NICU for 18 days. To some that's short, but to me it was hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It became a part of life. I would wake early before anyone else was up, shower quickly, rush around to head up to the hospital. I would be able to stay for 4-6 hours before my husband had to leave for work and then come home to be with our other children. Some nights I would cry myself to sleep, because I wanted my baby next to me. Other nights I knew she was where she needed to be at that time. It was a roller coaster ride. When you have strong people to ride that roller coaster with you, you don't feel so alone. My advice, don't take one day at a time, not even an hour. Take it minute by minute. Don't get discouraged when there are set backs. Remember to lean on other people and to take care of you so you can take care of your baby."

Taylor's photo session was taken and donated by Preemie Prints volunteer photographer, Jennifer Sternal-Johnson.

A Note From Jen:
"Taylor was born at 34 weeks when her mom developed pre-eclampsia, but now at 11 months is doing well! She was so cheerful and her two big sisters just adore her!"

A NICU STORY | THOUGHTS FROM MOM
“We were first admitted for respiratory issues. Beckham was on CPAP for 24 hours then nose tube air for a few days. After a couple days in the NICU he spiked a temp. The doctor recommended a spinal tap. Once they were doing the spinal temp he stopped breathing and had to be revived! They instantly started rounds of antibiotics and placed a PICC line. Once lab results came back it Turns out our poor little man had viral meningitis. We stayed for another week and a half so beck could regain his strength and also deal with feeding issues.”

Beckham’s photo session was taken and donated by Preemie Prints volunteer photographer, Katie.

A Note From Katie:
The six month portrait session for the Gans family occurred on a beautiful evening at Ault Park in Cincinnati, OH. The Gans family was so sweet and NICU graduate Beckham was such an adorable six month! His big blue eyes and curiosity were fun to photograph! I really enjoyed spending time and getting to know the Gans family. We worked together to make sure the children were happy and smiling for the portraits. The Gans family will now have beautiful family portraits that they will be able to treasure for the rest of their lives.”

A NICU STORY | THOUGHTS FROM MOM
“Aria was diagnosed with CHD (congenital heart defect) at 20 weeks in the womb. She has multiple heart defects. She was in the NICU and then transferred to the pediatric cardiac unit. She had open heart surgery on her 10th day of life and came out like a warrior! Since then, she's also had surgery to get a G-tube. Finally, after 34 days we were able to take her home! She will have another open heart surgery between 4-6 months and again at 3 years old.”

Aria’s photo session was taken and donated by Preemie Prints volunteer photographer, Katelyn Pullum.

A Note From Katelyn:
"Aria is 7 week old warrior who is healing from open heart surgery at just 10 days new! It was an honor and a pleasure to work with this family.  They spent weeks visiting their baby in the hospital and she was only released a weekish beforehand.  The day she came to me she was given clearance to be picked up under her arm pits and lay on her tummy.  I know mom and dad were still nervous so I stuck to mainly back poses and wrapped set ups!  She was a bit squeamish but its more of the age, they are very awake and alert at 7 weeks and not as sleepy as newborns.  But we still got some awesome shots for the parents!"
