A NICU STORY | THOUGHTS FROM MOM
“I was very blessed to have my son, Leondro, on Easter Sunday. I tried for years to get pregnant when Leo came into our lives. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and had to take extra care of ourselves while I was pregnant. The doctors decided I had to get induced because I was taking medication. At first his heart kept dropping with the induction meds they gave me so they tried something else the next day and after what seemed like forever, he finally arrived. From the very start Leo had to get his sugar tested and it remained low. They sent him over to the NICU and kept a close eye on him. He then wasn't able to breath and had to provided him with oxygen a few times. After a few weeks they sent my baby home with a monitor. 3 months later my baby boy is healthier than ever.

I am so blessed to have had a wonderful and experienced team taking care of my son. They taught me so much and made it so much easier taking my son home for the first time. I am also very appreciative of the Ronald McDonald House. They provided a place where my son was literally only a few feet away from us; they gave me a chance to be there by my son’s side through it all.”

A NICU STORY | THOUGHTS FROM MOM
“My son Josiah was born at 23 weeks gestational age on July 19 weighing 1lb and 6oz!! Josiah was diagnosed with grade IV brain bleed- but is beating the odds against him!! He is a fighter, and ready to conquer any obstacle that comes his way! God has had favor on us this whole journey... Josiah is now 3lbs and 9oz!! Getting so big ;).. to me anyways lol. And he’s the most precious baby you will ever meet!!

Josiah was born early at 23weeks- he has been diagnosed with grade IV brain bleed. This is the most devastating news I have received. BUT** I KNOW that the doctors don’t have the last word but GOD does!! Josiah is doing things that they wouldn’t expect for a baby with his condition to have!! Never lose hope!! Just know your baby has a purpose and a destiny!! And fight for him/her! I kangaroo him often, and I definitely know that it works!! It’s such a blessing to be able to hold him and spend time with him... just letting your child know you’er there with them- is EVERYTHING to them!!! Don’t lose hope!”

A Note From Mary:
"Josiah was born at 23 weeks gestation, weighing 1 lb, 6 ozs, and with a Grade IV brain bleed. I was blessed to photograph him and his parents in the NICU at Childrens' Hospital in Washington DC on November 11th, 2014. The session was extra-special because it was scheduled on Josiah's original due date - he was already 5 lb, 7 oz! He is a handsome little guy, with an adorable smile and amazing perseverance. Josiah has fought through so much, and is doing incredibly well! I loved spending that time with him and his parents and capturing forever memories of their NICU journey."

A NICU STORY | THOUGHTS FROM MOM

“Liam was born Sept. 1, 2014 at 32 weeks and 4 days after I was diagnosed with severe pre-eclampsia. He weighed 3 pounds and 11 ounces.

So far our NICU experience has been excellent and little Liam has been exceeding our expectations.”
