A NICU STORY | THOUGHTS FROM MOM
“I had been told for years that I could not have children. Cedar was my miracle baby and I was elated when I found out I was pregnant. At 31 weeks I started showing signs of labor. No one believed me at first, but they sent me to be checked. I was experiencing extreme cervical funneling. Typically cases like mine end in a second trimester miscarriage and I was blessed to have made it this far. They checked me into the hospital and worked on delaying my labor, but Cedar knew it was time to say hello to our big, beautiful world. On the fifth day of my stay he was born at 4lbs 4oz and 17.3 inches long. They were shocked that he came as healthy as he did. We only needed to work on feeding and weight gain. My little man lost 16% of his weight right away, but then started gaining like a champ. We left at just under 6lbs. We spent five weeks in the NICU. Cedar was a champ and continued to amaze them with his progress. Sadly, he was diagnosed with a heart condition right before we left, but is doing great on meds. Now that we are home he continues to thrive and is the biggest, most amazing miracle ever! I'm so lucky to be his mommy.”
Cedar’s photo session was taken and donated by Preemie Prints volunteer photographer, Kym Bowen.

The family request from can be found on the right side of our website. These sessions are free of charge and for any NICU family, regardless of time spent in the NICU. The NICU photo shoot can take place inside the NICU or after baby is discharged and at home until their 1st birthday.
