Jemma's NICU Grad Session

Please enjoy Preemie Prints' families’ inspirational story & photos.
Consider supporting our mission to share hope with families who have a baby born prematurely or critically ill. We thank our supporters, Preemie Prints volunteers, and donors for allowing us to continue touching the lives of NICU, preemie, and angel families.
We pray these special memories from Preemie Prints
will help families heal and remember how strong
they were in overcoming their NICU journey together.
A NICU STORY | THOUGHTS FROM JEMMA'S FAMILY
Jemma was born at 30w5d weighing only 1lb 10oz. I was diagnosed with IUGR (intrauterine growth restriction) during pregnancy. The placenta didn't form well throughout and wasn't able to supply nutrients and blood well to the baby. We battled reversed and intermittent blood flow in the later weeks, but thankfully was caught early. The Dr admitted me to the hospital when I was 24w and gave steroids. I was monitored closely. We were able to detect small changes that allowed another round of steroids and then a successful c section. Jemma did not require breathing assistance. They did put an NG tube in for feeding. We fought hard with feeding. She battled reflux and constipation a lot, but the nurses and drs always worked diligently to give her the best care possible. She spent 66 days in the NICU. The team decided they would send her home because babies tend to do better at home once stable enough. Since being home, we were able to remove the NG tube a few weeks later. It's still been a struggle for feeds but now that she's 7 months old, she weighs 11lbs and actually gets hungry now!! It gets better. Don't be discouraged with milestones and expectations because these babies are fighters and will amaze you. They are on their own curve. It will get better, trust me.

Jemma's photo session was taken and donated by Preemie Prints volunteer photographer, Jennifer Sternal-Johnson.

A Note From Jen:
Jemma was the sweetest little model! We met at the beach and had a great session. Best wishes to her and her family!

One of those programs is the gift of NICU photography and preemie photography. NICU families from across the US can request a no-charge photography session by a Preemie Prints volunteer. The family request from can be found on the right side of our website. These sessions are free of charge and for any NICU family, regardless of time spent in the NICU. The NICU photo shoot can take place inside the NICU or after baby is discharged and at home until their 1st birthday.
