A NICU STORY | THOUGHTS FROM MOM

"Austin was born 28 weeks and 5 days. He weighed 785 grams which makes him a micro preemie. Although it has been difficult for me, he has been a fighter since day one. I had severe preeclampsia and an emergency c-section. The NICU nurses and doctors were very supportive and made sure I understood everything from all the diagnoses to treatments to teaching me how to breastfeed. They made me feel comfortable and made sure all my questions were answered timely."

Austin is one blessed little baby! He is such a strong fighter and looking at him now you would never know he was a micro-preemie. His graduation pictures took place at his grandparent's house and the minute I walked in it was clear just how much love is in that place. His family adore him and he soaks it all in! It was so amazing to witness the special bond between him and his grandfather. The moment Austin wouldn't settle down or would cry grandpa would come over and it was instant smiles. Austin was so great to work with and I am truly honored to know his family. I cannot wait to see all the adventures this little boy will have!

Preemie Prints is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization sharing hope with NICU families through a variety of support programs. One of those programs is the gift of NICU photography and preemie photography. NICU families from across the US can request a no-charge photography session by a Preemie Prints volunteer. The family request from can be found on the right side of our website. These sessions are free of charge and for any NICU family, regardless of time spent in the NICU. The NICU photo shoot can take place inside the NICU or after baby is discharged and at home until their 1st birthday. Facing time in a NICU with a premature or critically ill baby is an extremely difficult time for families. Preemie Prints has a mission to share hope by letting families know they are not alone. Preemie Prints currently has over 100 volunteers nationwide. We are always looking for more volunteers to share in our mission!
