We pray these special memories from Preemie Prints
will help families heal and remember how strong
they were in overcoming their NICU journey together.
A NICU STORY | THOUGHTS FROM MOM
"At
my 20 week ultrasound to determine the gender of the baby, the doctor
noted that my fluid level was very low. Fast forward a few weeks and
my fluid level continued to drop. At week 25, I was admitted to the
hospital. The lack of fluid was causing Jack's growth to be restricted
and the specialist wanted to watch his progress more closely. Finally at
week 27, it was determined that my water had broken several weeks
prior. Jack seemed to be doing well given the lack of fluid, but all of a
sudden things changed. During our routine evening monitoring, Jack's
heart rate started destating in a way that caused concern. We were moved
to labor and deliver and a few hours later, the doctor called for
delivery. We were thankful to have made it to 28 weeks, but the moment
at which you know it's go-time is overwhelming. Sweet Jack was delivered
by C-section the morning of April 28th.
The
first few days were very touch and go. The doctor's were very honest
with their concern. His lungs were underdeveloped, even for a preemie.
He was on 100% oxygen and 2 ventilators. If he didn't respond, there was
 noting else they could do.
God is good and we did our best to trust He was in control. Jack quickly responded and by day 2, he was able to come off the ventilators. Things were mostly positive during our stay, but very challenging too. I have decided it is not possible to describe the emotions that you feel/experience when you have a child that requires special care. You'll have a seemingly great day and then all of a sudden, things change. The baby has a spell, you see their discomfort. My days were directly related to Jack's. If he was having a good day, I was having a good day. If he was having a bad day, I was having a bad day.
Thankfully, Jack is doing well now. We were discharged from the NICU yesterday. With a little more time and healing, we are confident Jack will live a long, healthy life. To God be the glory."

A note from Liz:
He is
such a doll and absolutely beautiful. What a pleasure it was to meet him
and his parents who absolutely adore him. He was born at 27 weeks and spent 50 days in the NICU but he is home and doing well. He has a sweet
little personality and the most gorgeous eyes. What a honor it was to
meet this family.

Preemie
Prints is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization sharing hope with NICU
families through a variety of support programs. One of those programs is
the gift of NICU photography and preemie photography. NICU families
from across the US can request a no-charge photography session by a
Preemie Prints volunteer. The family request from can be found on the
right side of our website. These sessions are free of charge and for any
NICU family, regardless of time spent in the NICU. The NICU photo shoot
can take place inside the NICU or after baby is discharged and at home
until their 1st birthday. Facing time in a NICU with a premature or
critically ill baby is an extremely difficult time for families. Preemie
Prints has a mission to share hope by letting families know they are
not alone. Preemie Prints currently has over 100 volunteers nationwide.
We are always looking for more volunteers to share in our mission! If
you are interested, please email sherri@preemieprints.org and visit our website at www.preemieprints.org. To date Preemie Prints and our volunteers have gifted over 400 NICU family sessions.
This was a Preemie Prints NICU graduate photography session that took place near Nashville, TN.
We're thankful to the family for sharing their story & memories in support of other NICU families.
